A collection of some of the SFX looks I have created.

Zombie Bite - September 2019

This was my first time using synthetic wax and you can see some places where I struggled to blend the wax out. For this look I took two thin strands of synthetic wax and blended them into my skin. I then used my spatula to cute teeth marks out of the wax and make it appear although I had been bitten. I then used pink, purple, brown, blue and yellow eye shadow to create bruises and added some red paint in the bite marks along with some splattered blood for effect.

Elderly - February 2020

Out of all the looks I have done this one was by far the most difficult. This is latex stippling and involves stretching the skin and holing it in place while the latex dries so that when returned to normal the skin appears very wrinkled. I would not attempt this on myself again and would ask someone to model for me in the future as this is a look that would be much easier with an extra set of hands to hold the skin in place whilst working.

Bruise - October 2019

I created this look using only alcohol activated paint. I did this because alcohol activated paint allows for a more subtle effect meaning its great for creating bruises and other blemishes that would not be ridiculously prominent at first glance of the skin.

Beaten Up - October 2019

This look was extremely simple and used methods I was extremely comfortable with. I simply used a multitude of different eye shadows to create the bruised eye (with assistance from a reference picture) and smeared fake blood around my nose and chin, adding some extra in small areas to make it look like actual blood.

Open Wound - March 2019

For this wound I made a sort of 'well' on my arm with cotton and latex and blended it as best as I could into the skin. I then applied water activated paint to the outside of the wound and filled it with fake blood.

Blistered and Burnt - October 2019

Creating blisters was an extremely hard process as I used SFX Gelatine. This is a mix of 1 part gelatin powder, 1 part glycerol and 1 part water mixed together and heated up. Working with the gelatine is rather difficult as there is  only about a minute at a time in which the mixture is not hot enough to burn and not cold enough to become hard to work with. After creating the blisters and melted skin I added alcohol activated paint in pink and yellow to give it a burnt look and applied Vaseline over the top of it to make it look shiny as real burns often do.

Half Zombie - October 2018

This look was created using latex and porridge oats! I mixed the porridge oats with the latex and applied it to the skin to create a lumpy looking surface as I imagine a zombies muscle would look like after being exposed to the elements. I then used paint to make the mixture red and added fake blood on top. Looking at this look now I would have incorporated the other side of my face a lot more to really bring the whole look together.

Missing Eyeball - May 2019

For this look I covered my face in a single thin coat of latex. I then started pulling some bits of the latex away after it had dried to create the effect of my skin starting to fall off. I applied an adhesive eye patch painted black and surrounded it with latex and cotton. I then created an eyeball using two cotton balls with one unravelled and stuck to the other one. I painted this to look like an eye and stuck it to the latex wall. I used the same latex and cotton to make it appear as though my brain was starting to be exposed. I then applied water activated paint as this is much safer to use all over the face and some fake blood for effect.

Exposed Mouth - February 2020

This is my most recent look. To see a full step by step flip over to my tutorial page. Although I am extremely proud of this look in the future I would definitely think about the colour story more for the actual muscle itself as I don't think I added enough variety to make it look realistic.
